Laurel is a managing partner with Payton Employment Law, PC where she oversees attorneys, staff, and law clerks to facilitate smooth case management. Additionally, she has extensive experience representing employees facing discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, and wage theft in many forms. She has practiced in both State and Federal courts in California and uses that procedural knowledge to guide her clients through the turbulent waters or litigation.
Laurel is a committed advocate dedicated to protecting and furthering employee rights. She represents clients who have suffered unlawful treatment by their employers. She works at ever stage to give
a voice to those who have been wronged and to make sure employers are held accountable for their actions. Laurel is a passionate litigator dedicated to the merits of each case and adept at using all resources available to reach the best outcome possible.
Laurel has a diverse background in various fields and draws from her understanding of these industries to make sure all claims are thoroughly vetted. This understanding leads to a thorough, well-reasoned approach to litigating each claim. From restaurants to office work, to film production, and medical services, Laurel listens to each client to understand the uniqueness of every position and make sure she is in the best position to advocate for employees at every level and regardless of industry.
Prior to joining Payton Employment Law, PC, Laurel has worked at law firms in San Diego, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange counties while representing clients throughout California. She helps employees understand their rights and makes sure employers are compliant with their obligations. Whether a client has endured discrimination based on race, gender, disability, or age, has been made to work off-the-clock hours then terminated for requesting proper pay, or even faced having their hours cut for requesting protected medical leave, Laurel zealously pursues justice on their behalf.
Laurel has and obtained numerous six-figure results for her clients through diligent investigation, preparation, and deep knowledge of the law. She has represented hundreds of clients but maintains a commitment to not only approach each case with the attention it deserves, but to provide each client with the information they need to understand the legal process and have their voice heard. Laurel is committed to education and is always happy to help employees understand what their rights are and what remedies are available for any unlawful conduct they have face at work.
Laurel graduate from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a B.A. in Mass Communication Studies focusing on journalism, political science, and film. She worked for several years for an international non-profit as a legal assistant before attending and obtaining her J.D. from The University of San Diego. While in law school she studied abroad in India for a comparative human rights class and was president of the International Human Rights Law Student’s Association. While obtaining her law degree Laurel also obtained certification as a mediator by the National Conflict Resolution Center and helped to resolve numerous disputes as a fair and knowledgeable neutral.
